02. A Word Regarding Reviews and Posts

1. This blog’s primary focus will be on independent artists. These artists could have varying degrees of social media exposure; anywhere from tens of monthly listeners from tens of thousands. The object is to bring awareness to these musicians period.
2. This will not be all sunshine and rainbows. But it won’t be dirty either. These reviews will be based solely from my own opinions. You can be rest assured that I will have listened to the music I review numerous times. I won’t review music I have not listened to or only listened to once. There will be positive feedback as well as constructive criticism. If you have thin skin, maybe consider whether or not you want your music reviewed. But I will NOT be deliberately negative. I appreciate and respect any and all passionate artists. I’m not going to trash a musician who busted their ass to share content.
3. Music is multi-faceted. I’m in my 40’s. I come from an era of music before the digital age. I appreciate that music. But it is 2024. I understand that the digital age is here to stay. I disagree with the “quality vs. quantity” debate, the simplicity of making music, and all other “well back in my day” rhetoric that is out there. With one exception: using AI to create a song from nothing is indirect copyright infringement, in my opinion. I will not be reviewing it. In order for your music to be reviewed by me, there has to be SOME organic composition. AI is STEALING from the algorithms with which it is creating music, it is also feeding corporations for profit by distracting listeners from listening to artists who are trying to have their music heard.
4. This forum will sometimes stray. If I go to a concert, I may write about it. If there is a release from an artist that is mainstream, that I feel is important, I may write about it. But this is a MUSIC forum. I’m not going to speak about anything beyond that topic of discussion-if I can help it.
Also, where did the concept of “Fifteen Minutes of Fame” come from? Excusing the derivative cliche of being in the spotlight for a brief period in one’s career, this was an idea I had while listening to a podcast. I’m sure most readers have heard of “New Heights.” Though they were already successful, their popularity was catapulted with the public awareness of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s personal relationship. There was a particularl episode where the hosts were taken aback by the support. I’m not too proud to admit I had a little bit of an envious thought when I said to myself, “wouldn’t it be nice if a major fanbase like “The Swiftes” were on loan for a day, an hour. I’d even take fifteen minutes.” But instead of staying green of jealousy, I thought I would make it my mission to cultivate a community of positive thinking people who would commit their time to lifting one another up. It’s a process. I admittedly don’t have a respectable level of influence on social media. Social media isn’t the top of my priority list. I have a family, I have a career, and I think it is healthy to diversify my time beyond my priorities. That being said, I am committed to this idea and the vision I have for it.
I hope that answers any questions you may have about what to expect while reading my blog.
