About the Artist

AiramFM is a pop singer/songwriter from Denmark. At 25 years of age, she is demonstrating a capacity to manage several aspects of being an independent recording artist as she writes, composes, records, and produces all of her own music.

Though music has always been a part of who she is, AiramFM didn’t start releasing music until 2022, after the passing of her mother. At 46, her mother lost a battle with cancer. A writer and singer herself, her mother would always encourage her to share her music with those that would listen. To honor that advice, AiramFM started doing just that. She has since released 16 singles and on the 30th of August, she will be releasing her 17th, North Star.

Please be sure to like and follow AiramFM on all of her social media platforms like threadsinstagram, and Facebook.

About the Song
North Star is a pop song with a run time of 3 minutes and 40 seconds. More specifically, it could fit into electronic, club, dance, or R&B genres. Musically, it would be comparable to Tove Lo. The song features vocals by AiramFM and primarily, a digital/synthetic accompaniment.

About the Music

The instrumentals of this song are a pleasant mixture of arpeggiated synths over a pad synth to fill space with sound. The drum programming is a simple arrangement succeeding in its intent to provide a rhythmic call to the song. The instrumental portion of this song is executed very nicely providing a very nice arrangement to accompany the focal part of the song, which is the vocal part.

Vocally, AiramFM provides a strong performance, demonstrating a range that settles perfectly in the range of upper alto and lower soprano. She gives a breathy and airy delivery with her performance; a vocal trait that is most famously related to artists like Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande. Additionally, the backing and layered vocal performances appropriately fill sound space to amp up the presence of her voice.

AiramFM’s voice blends eloquently with the slower, softer vibe of this song and the production has recognized this, taking the opportunity to match effects vocally and instrumentally like reverbs and echoes. The overall production quality of this song is very solid. Production has put together a piece of music that can transition over a few different genres making the artist’s style more marketable.

About the Lyrics

Lyrically, the song is written with a narrator addressing a subject and speaking to them through the analogy that they are the North Star, otherwise known as Polaris, which is a star famously known for being a guiding light. (North Star) is an uplifting song about seeing the light in someone, even if they don’t see it in themselves, and how you use their light to guide your way home in the dark.”

AiramFM is intentional about the encouraging sentiment in this piece of music. The chorus states “If I feel lonely, I just look into your eyes. And the. You hold me through my lows and my highs.” Hearing the lyrics, this song definitely feels like it is a love song with the narrator feeling elated when they’re in the presence of their subject.

The author expands on this in the verse. “There’s a light in your eyes and I see you for who you are. There’s a spark that surrounds you like you’re glowing from afar.” Given the overall tone of the lyrics, this would indicate a trust the narrator has with regard to their relationship and maybe also an element where the narrator is placing their subject on a pedestal.

Overall, the lyrical performance is very pretty, very positive, and “illuminating” with the use of analogy (I HAVE to stop with the puns).

Final Thoughts

Want to start out by saying this is a GOOD song. There isn’t a single thing that is unpleasant about it. The performance is solid and on point. The artist had a goal in mind of what they wanted to produce and they achieved that goal.

I have one constructive criticism though. I’ve listened to a few of the artist’s songs, as I wanted to get an idea of AiramFM’s overall style. This is my opinion: take it or leave it. The music sounds safe. Meaning, right now, the artist is showing us their talent. She is showing us something she is good at. Something she is skillful at. And she is good. But what makes music great?

Everybody in the world can answer the question about what makes a good song or a good artist about themselves and about other people. They are the overall societal concepts of what we like, right? But, when it comes to greatness, that is a question that far fewer people can answer. That is because an artist can’t be told what to do to be great. That is something they have to find within themselves. A vulnerability that they attack. And then use it as their weapon. Though an audience can’t tell an artist what it is about that artist that makes them great, they know it when they hear it. And they know it when they dont.

AiramFM has not been producing music for a long time. She doesn’t need to be great right now. I just know she has that potential. And I don’t want to leave anything on the table unsaid. AiramFM, you can be great. I can’t wait to hear greatness from you. I am impressed because I like what I hear. I am excited because I know there’s more to come.
