118. Fifteen Minutes of Fame Recaps: EP Review of Feverjaw by Feverjaw

About the Artist

I will always hold a special place in my heart when it comes to Feverjaw. They were one of my first reviews; the third review overall, the first band, and the first international artist. I am still a big fan of the album I reviewed, as These Times of Trouble was a fantastic album filled with influence from all sorts of 90’s rock bands.

Feverjaw are a 3-piece alternative rock band from Cardiff Wales. They are Dale Hawkins, James Carey, and Lewis Bligh. They have a big sound and achieve this by incorporating layers on guitars and vocals at all the right places, as well as a symbiotic relationship between the bass and drums that allows for a melodic freedom of range for the guitars.

About the EP

Feverjaw is a 3 - song EP that released on April 11th, 2025.  Feverjaw features two new original compositions and a cover of the Nirvana song, Something in the Way. Feverjaw has a runtime of around 11 minutes.

About the Music

Feverjaw have not lost their touch for control in their latest self-titled EP. What really makes them special as a band and really showcases their cohesiveness is their ability to transition together. They do this rhythmically, dynamically, and it feeds through their music as if they were a heart beat and their audience were a pulse. That kind of relationship resonates in a dramatic and everlasting way.

In the opener, The Physical Limit, they immediately set the tone with an uptempo arrangement. Melodically, The Physical Limit has a similar flow and feel to a similar effect of Foo Fighters. The layering of the vocals that come in on the chorus, as well as the guitars. The dynamic control come from the drums, straightaway. The band hammer into the downbeat of this song religiously, bringing this song to life.

The bridge is a nice instrumental moment that offers a nice transition and an opportunity for the bass to showcase their talent.

In Piledriver, Feverjaw are committed to keeping up the pace as this song opens right into a high-energy guitar riff and full use of the drum kit. As the verse comes in, the volume drops to allow the vocals to be showcased.

The guitars take the cake here, as the riffs performed in the intro and in the bridge are very energetic and offer melodic themes that really bring deeper meaning to the song.

The final track is the cover of Something in the Way. I really love this cover because Feverjaw have really done it tastefully and they have managed to make the song their own. The verses are executed in a regimented fashion as the drums roll the melody out into the field of battle.

As the chorus begins, the guitars queue full commitment from the band and it is an explosive transition, dynamically. As the song closes, they add an element with a synth string part that gives the song a more haunting vibe than its original composers offer. It is an interesting way to reevaluate the meaning of the song.

Final Thoughts

Feverjaw have been releasing music for 6 years now since debuting with their single Landspeed Record and it is such a privilege to hear their growth. From their debut LP, All Bets Are Off to last year’s follow up with These Times of Trouble, and now this seamless self-titled EP, Feverjaw just keep getting better.

They continue to perfect their sound and showcase their music as they play shows all around the UK periodically. They are playing at the Fuel Rock Club in Wales on May 9th. If one happens to be in the area at this time, this is most certainly not a show to miss.
