About the Artist
In January, I reviewed the release of Roommates - EP by Lavender Fire. As it turns out, she is on a production tear, as she has released another EP in April!
Lavender Fire is a piano-based pop folk performer out of Norfolk, Virginia. It was only last year that she started performing as Lavender Fire and, since then, has really found an inspiration to create. Drawing from her life, self-discovery, accepting her identity, and embracing her power, she has truly found a voice.

About the EP
She's My Ocean is the latest release for Virginia-based recording artist, Lavender Fire. At 13 minutes, this 4-song EP released on April 14th, 2025. This is the second release for Lavender Fire in 2025, after her January release of Roommates-EP. She’s My Ocean features Jennifer Gammill and was performed and produced by Lavender Fire.
About the Music
She’s my Ocean opens with the title track, which is an arpeggiated piano ballad. Lyrically, the song is about the narrator’s object of affection; a girl that has been placed on a pedestal. Through clever lyrical analogy, she compares the girl to the ocean by observation and by feeling; at one point saying , “so much blue I feel when I look at her,” and then moving to say, “she’s my ocean wading at my feet.” These metaphors describe an immersive affection that feels like a very new, very real and compassionate love.
This song is followed by a remix of the same song. Instrumentally, this song is more electronic; incorporating a programmed percussion part, backing synths, and remixed vocals. The remix is more uptempo, particularly with the addition of the percussion, which becomes rather complex in parts.
The third song is Fine Line. Fine Line is an electric synth pop song featuring a vocal performance by Jennifer Gammill. The musicality of this song is more ambient, with trance-like progressions and vocal harmonies experimenting with different modes of scales.
The EP closes with wanderlust, a piano ballad. Melodically, Wanderlust is very bright and warm sounding, resolving to major keys and incorporating bright backing vocals to support the soprano lead.
Final Thoughts
The thing I really love about listening to Lavender Fire’s music is I hear a person who cannot begin to hide her happiness. Her joy is metaphorically exploding out of their music. Whether this is a specific love, the freedom she now feels and fully embraces, or a combination, the product is inspiring.
As a listener I’ve always had the perception that I gravitate towards more melancholic music. That might be true but I know that, because of this, the more positive melodies resonate deeply with me. Taking lyrics out of the discussion for a moment, I am a person who initially analyzes the melodies, harmonies, and tempos of songs. What Lavender Fire has proven once again is that, whether an musician produces melancholic music or uplifting music, if they do it with passion it will keep bringing listeners back.
Lavender Fire is a very passionate musician.
