About the Artist

I am getting more and more excited about the scene that is emerging out of the Minneapolis area. Home of legendary acts like Prince and grunge rock pioneers, Soul Asylum, it is no wonder the Independent Scene is as impactful as it is. Fifteen Minutes of Fame have already covered musical releases of artists like Lexie ModicaFireside ShadowConzemius, and Katy Tessman. Now, it’s time to introduce our readers to Nobody From Nowhere.

Nobody From Nowhere is a musical project organized by Michael Koppelman, a producer credited for contributing to works released by Prince in fact. It includes a diverse group of musicians, including Katy Tessman’s son; the talented guitar player, Louis Tessman Stonach, Oliver Osland, Myles Koppelman, and Marc Retish.

Touted for inspiring live performances, Nobody From Nowhere are poised to becoming somebody very soon. Their multi-faceted group of very talented musicians have the capability of navigating a border-less plane of musical performance, ignoring the compulsion to fit into any one genre.

About the Song

Set Me Free is the debut single from Minneapolis-based rock band, Nobody From Nowhere. It features a vocal collaboration from the very talented vocalist and harpist, Nikki Lemire. Set Me Free released on June 6th, 2025, and has a run time of a little more than 4 minutes.

About the Music

Set Me Free really has a little taste of everything. As the song begins, we are introduced to a heavy bass synth that has a bit of a saw effect with a slight tremolo to it. Instruments start trickling into the equation, like the lead guitar that alternates from playing ambient chords to intricate but subtle little solo licks. The drums play a subtle but driven tempo-setting cadence driven by performance on the toms. The anticipation of the song grows, as the instruments continue to build off of this introduction that plays for the first 100 seconds of the song.

From there, Set Me Free settles right into its progression and Lemire’s vocals come in, backed by (I presume) Michael Koppelman. Lemire’s performance is nothing short of extraordinary. She has a commanding power, a colorful vibrato, and an impressive roots sound.

The song morphs from its progressive introduction into a southern rock, blues, roots sound, throughout the body; all the well, reintroducing elements of the progressive flow from the introduction.

In addition to Lemire, there is a standout performance on the lead guitar by Tessman Stonach, who seems to know exactly what to play and when to play it. I also really love the synth in this song. It really gives it a diverse feel from delving too deep into a roots sound. The synth is the instrument that truly gives Set Me Free its authenticity and its originality.

Final Thoughts

Calling Nobody From Nowhere a new act is true but its kind of cheating as well. This is a group of experienced and talented musicians that are more than capable of hitting the ground running. Even still, new beginnings bring about an energy that can set the tone for creativity within a band.

Set Me Free is a song that sets the tone for excellence. Their ability to perform gives them an advantage as they play you with the limits within each genre they experiment. They know how to find the right artists to collaborate with and when they bring them into the studio, they produce an adhesive, symbiotic record.

There is so much to be excited for with this first record. All that’s left to say is looking forward to the next!
