47. Single Review of Disco Helmet Man by Neccos for Breakfast

Originally published on September 27, 2024 About the Artist I’m honestly really excited to do this review.  Neccos for Breakfast  actually submitted a request for a review for a song called  Nerd Rock  from their album  More Like Me . Unfortunately, the album came out last year and I am trying very hard to remain steadfast to my current release initiative. NFB took this as high road as anybody could and he continued to support, participate, and initiate the philosophy we are trying to enact here at Fifteen Minutes of Fame. He’s been an ambassador for independent artists. A  passionate one .  He’s not only a participant with FMOF, he is also a  blog creator  himself, starting the blog reviews “Neccos for Breakfast Deep Dives,” utilizing the hashtag #communityovercompetition, a mantra that similarly aligns with that of ours here at FMOF.   There’s no way to repay that kind of person. On the days where I feel like I’m wasting my time, I’m n...

46. Single Preview of Jungle Night by Michael Daughtry

Originally published September 25th, 2024 About the Artist Our next featured artist, and newest member of the Fifteen Minutes of Fame alumni, is  Michael Daughtry . Upon reading about Mr. Daughtry, I was blown away at the similarities he and I share in our past. Though I live 600 miles away from him, it would be no surprise to me to learn that we had crossed paths at one point in time or another.  Michael grew up in a small town in North Carolina. So did I. They don’t get much smaller than New Bern, North Carolina. He seems to also be near the east coast of NC because he is playing at the International Folk Festival in Fayetteville, North Carolina  this Saturday , if you happen to be in the area. I was stationed at Fort Bragg for a short while during my service for the US Army. Fort Bragg is located directly near Fayetteville. Michael graduated from Berklee School of Music, in Boston, my first choice school. In fact, I was accepted there, I toured the campus, and I auditi...

45. Single Review of The Veil by Dawn Gibson

Originally Published September 20th, 2024 About the Artist You know what everybody loves? Everybody loves a good comeback story! Comeback stories can have great outcomes, like Michael Jordan coming back to play for the Chicago Bulls and win three championships. The famous  headline  “I’m Back” featuring Jordan coincidentally sporting his short-lived number 45 jersey. They can also have underwhelming outcomes…. Like Michael Jordan coming back to play for the Wizards ( ??? ), having 2 average (for him) seasons hampered with injury and left him being chased out of DC.  Yes, the outcomes might not always live up to the hype but when we see those pivotal words “I’m back!” we get excited. If you visit  Dawn Gibson's  Spotify bio, it starts “SHE’S BACK!” with a heroic vibrato that beckons us to read on. Gibson was the lead singer and rhythm guitar player for Mixed Trix and Dedringer in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Epitomizing the robust sounds of traditional rock musi...

44. EP Review of Cupid Struck by YSN Nari

Originally published September 20th, 2024 About the Artist YSN Nari  is a rapper and a singer from Nigeria, River State. He started performing in school with friends in social gatherings, which helped to cultivate his passion for performance. Though he enjoyed performing with his friends, he didn’t see music as something he would pursue until later in life when he started writing and freestyling. Upon rediscovering his passion, he recorded and released his first record, a song called Paradise. Since then, YSN Nari has released two singles;  Wild Side  and  With Me . YSN Nari, or Victor Nyebuchi, says “Music is something I can’t do without. It is therapeutic for me and I find myself making music effortlessly.” So far, his passion has brought him to the recording studio but Nari plans to begin doing live performances by the end of the year. He has collaborated with  Callsign  and  BlackBoy , an experience he really enjoyed.  Make sure to follow YSN ...

43. Single Preview of Something Happened by Ime Sasu

Originally published September 18, 2024 About the Artist As a musician, I’ve been widely known as a alt rock, indie rock, and Americana/folk player. Of course I love all kinds of music, but those are the genres I tend to stick around. It’s been that way for a long time, too.  But it wasn’t always that way. In the 20th century,  MTV  was known for something completely unfamiliar to the network these days: music. Yes, Music Television used to actually play music. More specifically, they would play music videos. It was there that I heard  Jon Secada  and his sensational hit,  If You Go , for the first time. I liked other types of R&B as well. I definitely got into the Motown revival with acts like Boys 2 Men and All 4 One, but I preferred the soulful style that seemed to physically force emotion straight from their heart to their vocal chords.  Honestly, I haven’t revisited my love for Soul R&B in quite some time. That is, until I heard  Ime ...

42. Single Review of Psychedelics by Savannah Campbell

Originally published September 17th, 2024 About the Artist This review hits home for me. Literally. Because this artist is from the same city I’m from. Like me,  Savannah Campbell  calls Gallatin, Tennessee home. I first heard of her when I happened across one of her fliers promoting an album release while I was in the lobby at my son’s guitar lesson. Campbell started releasing music in the summer of 2023, with her first single,  Neon Seconds . She released her debut album,  Wrong Side of the Radio , on September 15th, 2023, just over one year ago. “By blending music of past decades with her storytelling voice, Savannah has created a truly original sound that has something for everyone.” (Spotify bio) Savannah Campbell’s music and style defies borders. It’s not just country or folk. It’s not just rock or soul. It has a sound that could fit in today’s music, the 90’s, or the 60’s and 70’s. Her low and raspy voice compares  Stevie Nicks  and  Joni Mitche...

41. Single Review of Obregia by Alexe

Originally published September 12th, 2024 About the Artist Nearly midway through my third month after starting Fifteen Minutes of Fame, I have found that it is more than just an exercise in changing the critical norms that fast-paced social media have established. Developing an analytical spectrum for how you interpret music allows you to appreciate every song more. I’ve also found that it gives me more desire to branch out and find music that I wouldn’t normally listen to. I’ve always been into alternative, folk, Americana, and softer styles of music. Now, I’ve not only developed an appreciation for Metal, Hard Rock, Dark Wave, and Gothic music, I’ve developed a fondness for it. So, I was very excited about my next challenge of getting to know the artist,  Alexe  and the hardcore music he produced. Alexe is a young performer from Romania. His music is a significant blend of metal and trap beats.  About the Song Obregia is a metal record that released on August 29th, 2024...

40. Single Review of Over and Over by Longwinded

Originally published August 9th, 2024 About the Artist “Whenever I am about to do something, I think, ‘Would an idiot do that?’ and if they would, I do not do that thing.”  Dwight Schrute Human beings have primitively existed for a believed 300,000 years on Eath, which is a flicker of a flame in the 4.5 billion years of the Earth’s theorized existence. In that time, we’ve had philosophers, scientists, and cultural leaders who’ve done and said some pretty incredible things. How is it that, in that span of time, so many reside from one television show? There are so many moments, one might ask, “What exactly is going on in Scranton, Pennsylvania?” Catherine Gee might be able to speak on that, as she is originally from there. Like  King T'Challa , she decided it was time to share the prosperity of her home with the rest of the world and moved to Los Angeles to join with Brian Kelly and Will Patrick Jackson in forming the ever-promising pop punk band,  Longwinded .  Longw...

39. Single of Red Paint by Comfort Noise

Originally published on September 5th, 2024 About the Artist On the  spotify  bio for  Comfort Noise , he says two words: “Unreliable narrator.” Challenge accepted. About the Song Red Paint  is the debut single of independent recording artist, Comfort Noise. It has a run time of just over 2 and a half minutes. It was released on August 30th. It fits in the genres of Gothic House, Darkwave, Drum, and Bass, and could probably live in a few other genres. Red Paint has a very similar style to prime  Nine Inch Nails  and, though it’s the  second  Darkwave work I’ve reviewed, is quite different and stands apart from that sound. It features a bass with so much phaser, it might be  set to stun  (apparently mine is set to fun), electric guitar, piano electrosynth programming, and I’m going to take a stab and say the drums were programmed but I’m honestly not 100% (either way, nice!) as well as an insane vocal performance that sets the bar for the...

38. Single Review of Make the Night by Tripendicular

Originally published September 5th, 2024 About the Artist Tripendicular  is the stage name of solo artist, Todd Groemling, a life-long native of Louisville,  Kentucky. When he was younger, he would play open mics in town to showcase in front of listeners and other performers, but now he prefers creating from his in-home studio where he is constantly working on solo and collaborative efforts.  Tripendicular also likes to release music videos of his songs, deliberately leaving himself out them so the audience can focus on the music and correlated images that encompass his work. He refers to his style as “kaleidoscope music,” because he likes to introduce or remove one textural layer at a time in an effort to enhance his audience’s listening experience. If you have listened to Tripendicular’s work, and you like what you hear, you’re in luck because he has planned on more releases throughout the remainder of the year. About the Song Make the Night  Is Tripendicular’s mos...

37. Single Review of You Could Change by SeedSquatch featuring Muck Sticky

Originally published September 3rd, 2024 About the Artist “I think Bigfoot is blurry and that’s extra scary to me. Because that means there’s a large, out of focus creature roaming the countryside. ‘Run! Get out of here! He’s fuzzy!’”  Mitch Hedburg So, I honestly didn’t know what I was getting myself into when I hit play on  You Could Change  by the artist  Seedsquatch , featuring  Muck Sticky . However, 30 seconds into the song, I knew I would be writing about it. Seedsquatch is a “hairy songwriting creature that enjoys growing ganja and sharing his knowledge of life to others who care to listen.” This from the elusive humanoid primate himself.  Seedsquatch  Looks to be a project to make an independent film and, along the way, music is being made. In addition to “You Could Change,” you can hear their newest release  Rainbow  here and you can catch a glimpse of him in the wild here on  Instagram . His less hairy sidekick, Muck Sticky, i...
