139. Single Review of Hurricane Heart by Amity

About the Artist

I remember the first time in heard Amity. He had just released his single Bite Me! and I remember just being down away by the vocal performance he turned in. I remember the song not sounding like I expected it to, given the title. The smooth, silky, and soulful R&B sound just settling over the keys and percussion. I remember being pulled from the melody to lyrical passages like, “And where do devils and damn gods begin? Where do you draw the line?” then being pulled back to a melodical line that forced me to stop analyzing and just listen. I was instantly hooked.

Amity debuted at just 15 years of age. In just a short time, he had been featured in The Guardian, he has won an RBE music excellence award and he has been deemed a Royal Albert Hall’s Future Maker Artist. He has been featured in ASBO magazine as “one to watch,” and he has been a resident artist at London Soho’s Spice of Life.

Bite Me! is Amity’s debut single and he followed its release with the April 11th release of To Be Known. Like Bite Me!, To Be Loved is arranged to piano and keys, it is a slower song, but not quite a ballad. The instrumental composition is overshadowed by another outstanding vocal performance by Amity. He has an instinct for where a melody should go. It is a particular gift that lets him do things with music that most musicians wouldn’t think of. It’s as if he performs the song, then he writes it. I might be envious of just how gifted he is if I didn’t absolutely admire how very good it is.

These singles, as well as the single I’m reviewing are ahead of Amity’s debut EP release, which is scheduled for July 15th, 2025.

About the Song

Hurricane Heart is the third single by UK artist, Amity ahead of his debut EP to be released in July. At just over 4 minutes, it features Amity on vocals and keys and he is accompanied by the full support of a rock band. Hurricane Heart released on May 30th, 2025.

About the Music

Hurricane Heart is Amity’s best performance to date. It is the most uptempo performance of his releases but takes dynamic shifts liberally throughout the song, doling out a variety of entertaining styles that would draw any ear.

It is no surprise that, in the midst of all of the great sounding music happening in this track, Amity’s vocal performance stands above the rest. A vocalist has a choice of what notes they intend to sing. Amity always makes the right choice. Again, it’s as if he doesn’t think about the theory and he just instinctually does the thing that sounds the best.

The control of his notes as he jumps from note to note, it is so pure and precise. He doesn’t miss a note. Not a single one.

As the song goes into the bridge, Amity starts performing in falsetto. It is impactful as I could hear it just silencing a room. It is a show-stopping moment. As the bridge builds, so does the moment, until the resolve where the band comes back in at the end to conclude the song in epic fashion.

I love the choice of progressions, I love the transitions from verse to chorus, to verse, and I really love that bridge. The keys have a subtle hint of British Invasion-style rock, mixed with classical influence and R&B. Throwing these three genres into a pot and composing this work is better than I could have imagined.

Final Thoughts

Amity features a very distinct voice and it is amplified by his complete control over his performance. He really feels every word of his performance and it really is his own. It is no wonder that, since his debut, the accomplishments just started pouring in. I don’t see that stopping for him any time soon.

As good as it sounds to listen to recordings of Amity, I can only imagine it is all that much better to witness the performances live. For listeners in the UK, you’re in luck! Amity is performing in London three times in June, as well as playing three shows in July in London, Enfield, and Durham. Check out his Spotify to see the dates and venues!

Amity is a generational talent. To be this good so early in his career is absolutely impressive. He has such a profound grasp on the songwriting process; lyrically and melodically. It makes his potential unimaginable. So I won’t try to imagine it. I’m just going to make sure I’m there to witness it.
